The ENVIRANT COST Action (CA23154) is pleased to announce a three-day Training School on “The Use of Organoids for Chemical Toxicity Assessment of Anthelmintic Residues”, taking place from 29 September to 1 October 2026 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of León, Spain.

About the Training School
This Training School aims to promote and incentivize the application of organoid technology for studying the toxicity of anthelmintic residues.
Participants will gain practical and theoretical knowledge of intestinal organoid models and their application in the assessment of chemical toxicity, with a particular focus on research into veterinary drug residues.
Learning objectives
By the end of the Training School, participants will be able to:
- Prepare and handle primary intestinal organoid cultures.
- Evaluate chemical toxicity using intestinal organoids as reliable 3D biological models.
- Explore complementary downstream applications of 3D cell culture in drug-residue research.
Programme
The Training School will cover the following topics:
- 2D vs. 3D cell culture: advantages of unicellularity, multicellularity and organoid biology.
- Organoid derivation strategies: iPSCs versus adult tissue-derived stem cells.
- Isolation and harvesting of mouse intestinal crypt stem cells.
- Culture and differentiation media: applications of Matrigel in 3D scaffolding.
- Organoid maintenance: expansion, cryopreservation and thawing.
- Microplate preparation and high-throughput organoid assays for efficacy and toxicity screening.
