Working Group 3 virtual meeting summary 20-Jun-2025 (ENVIRANT, CA23154)
The WG3 virtual meeting focused on advancing pilot farm activities aimed at evaluating and implementing sustainable worm control practices across Europe. It has been confirmed that both existing and upcoming protocols developed under SPARC (a Horizon Europe thematic network) will be shared with ENVIRANT partners, allowing each to choose the most suitable approach for their local context. Emphasis will be placed on capturing changes in anthelmintic use, productivity, and parasite infection levels before and after interventions. Each participant is expected to define the specific sustainable control practices they will apply on their farms and report results using the shared framework.
The meeting also addressed regional support, particularly for Balkan countries, to ensure effective adoption and communication of control strategies. Practical considerations around sampling protocols were discussed, with a shared understanding that these must align with project goals and available resources. The group also explored ways to monitor anthelmintic use over time, recognizing differences between livestock species and the importance of identifying resistant parasite stages. Participants agreed on the importance of timely data submission and locally tailored strategies to ensure meaningful and comparable outcomes.
